Bonjour!
Are you up for a challenge?
We believe there are at least ten thousand English-speaking people in the world who think it's important to read the work of writers, poets, and cultural-influential thinkers from around the world.
Today in the United States, 60% of all the novels sold in the chain stores are written by only ten authors. That means there are a lot of talented voices vying for the remaining shelf space. Interesting stuff that gets overlooked or forgotten or, worse, is never published, never read, never considered. Not only individuals but entire cultures, countries, civilizations - within our borders and beyond - are being ignored because no one is defending their right to be heard.

In Paris, we've been publishing a literary and art journal in English since the early 80s. Frank. Commited to an eclectic range of creative work that zig-zags across frontiers, language groups, nationalities, and genres. We've hung on through an era that affords fewer and fewer resources to the non-commercial, and have managed to bring into print the work of 800 writers and poets from over 30 countries. Today we enjoy around 2500 readers and 500 subscribers, which isn't bad for a literary journal, expect for the simple fact we are sure there are 5 to 10 times more who'd love what we're publishing. And we work too hard to collect such original and powerful writing to only share it with a few. So, we decided to head through the roof and move our readership to 12500 over the next 36 months. Yup, a 400% increase.
Here's the challenge. We have a pretty unorthodox idea, and it involves a small but select group of lawyers called LAWYERS FOR LITERATURE. As a non-profit organization, we created the group to be Frank's Honorary Board of Advisors for for both our print and online editions.
So, in a world so driven by media and loud noises, how does an independent literary journal strengthen its impact amongst the clamor? We came up with Lawyers for Literature, a response intended to align ourselves with a small group of high powered dynamic individuals with a desire to be a part of an international cultural project. We figure that the fit is ingenious: intelligent, quick-witten, culturally-concerned professionals with untapped creative desires to be part of an international cultural project teaming up with Frank, an accomplished yet bohemian Paris-based journal that's devoted to publishing a continual flow of good stuff and throwing great parties every Spring in the City of Light.
And frankly, we hope you are one of these lawyers.
In our thinking, literature is one of the most significant and underestimated vehicles for promoting civil involvement and international understanding.
Frank has engaged a select number of forward-thinking lawyers who recognize the potential and value of cultural content for raising consciousness and promoting genuine dialogue. With each publication of Frank, not only do we aim to promote the work of extraordinary talent but we combat ethnocentric tendencies in the world.
