Aglaja Veteranyi, born 1962 in Bucarest, Rumania, now lives in Zurich. She grew up in a circus family and traveled with the circus, performing in Europe, Africa, and Latin America, and since 1982 has worked as a freelance actress. In 1996 she founded with Jens Nielsen the performance group "Die Engelmaschine." Veteranyi, whose work has appeared in anthologies and literary magazines, has received several prizes including the literary award of the City of Zurich, the "Kunstpreis Berlin 2000," and the "Chamisso Fsrderpreis," Munich.
